Preheat the oven to 180°C.
Mix the egg and sugar together in a large bowl. Gradually add the milk and melted butter. Fold the flour and salt into the wet ingredients quickly without beating. In another bowl, sprinkle the diced butternut with cinnamon and stir well.
Next, add the butternut and chocolate chips to the mixture and spoon in the mixture to fill each muffin cup three quarters full.
Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until the blade of a knife comes out clean.
